Trip 335 - June 2, 2026 (Tuesday).

Cape Mudge Lighthouse & Cape Mudge RV Park

Quadra Island, British Columbia, Canada.

Location: Southern part of Quadra Island, which itself is located off Vancouver Island, a 10 minute ferry ride away from Campbell River.

Liked: Cape Mudge Lighthouse, very fine views from Cape Mudge RV park.

Of note: The trail from Cape Mudge RV park to the village is (permanently?) closed. Uneven ground on the stone-filled beach. Noise from power boats passing by.

Cape Mudge Lighthouse is a working lighthouse located off Lighthouse Road on Quadra Island, and Cape Mudge RV park is a few hundred meters away, and features very fine natural views.

1. Here is a Google Maps location of Cape Mudge Lighthouse on Quadra Island, BC.

2. We are driving n Quadra Island en route to Cape Mudge Lighthouse.

3. There is a T-Junction at the end of Lighthouse Road. The lighthouse is just to the left, but is very hard to see behind the trees.

4. There is a small sign on a tree seen in the photo above, but this sign is easy to miss.

5. If you make a right turn at the T-junction (like we initially did), Cape Mudge RV park would begin in a few hundred meters, so just turn around and head to the lighthouse. There is a small parking lot in front of it.

6. Cape Mudge Lighthouse is run by the Coast Guard. There is no public access to the lighthouse grounds.

7. A helicopter landing area is just behind the fence.

8. It is possible to walk on a stony beach along the fence and see the lighthouse from different angles.

9. Looking back from the same spot.

10. It's a short and easy hike on the beach.

11. The lighthouse appears to be in good shape, its red-and-white paint matching well with the surrounding vegetation and blue ocean and sky.

12. The path here is not as scenic as at the nearby Cape Mudge RV park, despite being just 400-500 meters away.

15. And now we're heading to Cape Mudge RV Park, located a few hundred meters from Cape Mudge Lighthouse. Here is the road right after you turn Right at the T-junction seen in photo #3.

16. Just a bit further, there is this beacon.

17. In a few hundred meters, Cape Mudge RV Park begins past this gate.

18. This is a great location, with many fine views. 80 meters past the gate (all distances are approximate).

22. At 200 meters past the gate - campsite #28.

38. There is actually a trail to a Native village behind the building...

39...but it is (permanently?) closed.

Cape Mudge Lighthouse is a fine landmark, and Cape Mudge RV Park features many fine views. Recommended.
