Anderson Bay Provincial Park Location:
On the southern tip of Texada Island off BC
Sunshine Coast, next to South Texada Provincial Park. Liked: A pleasant access road to the park, bay views, sea lions in the bay. Vancouver, Coast & Mountains Backroad Mapbook (2019 edition) Anderson Bay Provincial Park location: Page 8 (Texada Island) F4.Related Website: Texada Island - Wiki. Follow @ihikebc TweetAnderson Bay Provincial Park is located on the southern tip of Texada Island, which is a very large island (approximately 50 km long and 10 km wide) located between Sunshine Coast of BC and Vancouver Island. Other than by boat, the only way to get to Anderson Bay Provincial Park is by taking a forest service road, which is suitable only for 4x4 vehicles the last 10+ kilometers due to several long steep hills with loose surface. We thus biked toward the park, which made for a relatively quick downhill trip, but it was a substantial effort to get back to our parked vehicle due to all those hills we had to climb on the way back. Other than the steep hills, the access road is in a very decent shape, with no cross-ditches, and with pleasant forest scenery. The bay itself looks quite fine, and the added bonus was observing a bunch of sea lions, who were chilling on a rock in the bay while making loud sounds every now and then. Of course, if you wish for a quiet time while visiting the bay that's not going to happen, unless sea lions would be elsewhere during your visit. 30. At 10.23 km from Gillies Bay general store, we have arrived to the end of the road. Anderson Bay ahead.
31. We then went to the left via a small bridge. Beware of copious amounts of stinging nettle in this part of the park.
32. Shortly after a bridge, a picnic table.
33. We then went straight, along the left side of the bay.
34. 120 meters from the picnic table.
35. 60 meters later.
36. 240 meters from the picnic table, the way forward ended at a steep rock face. However, there was a short climb to the forest on the left side.
37. Once in the forest, a few hundred meters to the left leads to a fine ocean rock view, and a few hundred meters to the right is the bay itself, where we found a bunch of sunbathing sea lions.
38. We first went to the left and reached this fine rock view.
39. Hiked a bit more to the right, and this looks even better.
40. We then again went through the forest towards the sounds made by the sea lions.
41-42. The sea lions were chilling on a rock in the middle of the bay. Plain and zoomed views.
43. After that, we went down to get closer to the water.
44. Then got on the protruding rocks seen in the middle right of the photo above.
45-46. From here, the sea lions were about 150 meters away.
Here is our video of the sea lions in Anderson Bay.
